The YGCC Leadership Team
Kim Quach, President

Kim is President of the YGCC, having served as an Associate Manager of Activities during 2016. He is a fifth-year Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Chemistry where he studies kinase signaling in the laboratory of Professor Alanna Schepartz. Prior to Yale, he earned a B.S. as a joint Chemistry and Biology major from Harvey Mudd College. Outside of lab Kim enjoys spending his free time playing tennis, squash, and board games.

Janelle Lora, Vice President of Activities

Janelle is a third year Ph.D. candidate in the chemistry department researching proton-coupled electron-transfer processes at metal oxide semiconducting materials under the guidance of James Mayer. Outside of lab, she is working on market research with HairToStay, a non-profit organization in the Bay Area dedicated to providing financial support to patients who cannot afford scalp-cooling treatments. Janelle was raised in the Philippines and New Zealand before moving to Southern California in High School after which she received her undergraduate degree from the University of CA, Irvine. Outside of lab, Janelle enjoys going to the gym, traveling and aspires to be able to ballroom dance one day.

Daria Huang, Vice President of Content

Daria is a fifth-year Ph.D. candidate in the Chemistry Department studying organometallic synthesis and catalysis under the guidance of Robert Crabtree. Her research focuses on the development of metal-based catalysts for use in green energy efforts, like solar and hydrogen fuel cells. Outside of lab, she taught through the Graduate Writing Lab for three years and worked with the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute as a Venture Creation Consultant, assisting several start-ups with technical tasks including market research surveys and beta model testing. Daria is excited to combine her passion for writing and business as VP of Content.

Kate Otley, Vice President of Communication

Kate is a fifth-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Chemistry. She is currently designing small-molecule inhibitors of protein tyrosine phosphatase enzymes for the study of neuordegenerative disease in the lab of Professor Jonathan Ellman. Kate is originally from Portland, Maine and graduated from Hamilton College in 2012, where she studied chemistry and economics and played on the womens lacrosse team. In her spare time, Kate enjoys hiking, science outreach, and listening to Taylor Swift music.

Leela Dodda, Associate Manager of Communication

Leela is a fourth-year Ph.D. student in the Chemistry department, where he studies computational chemistry in the laboratory of Professor William Jorgensen. Prior to coming to Yale, Leela earned his masters degree from the National Institute of Science Education and Research in Bhubaneswar, India. Leela is excited to join the YGCC team as Associate Manager of Communication.

Yana Bebieva, Associate Manager of Activities

Yana is a fifth-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Geology & Geophysics. Her research focuses on the dynamics of the Arctic Ocean; she uses a combination of theoretical modeling and data analysis to examine the processes responsible for ocean heat transport in the Arctic.  Prior to Yale, she earned a B.S. from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and a M.S. from Utrecht University. In her spare time, Yana loves travelling and enjoys hiking, science outreach and playing basketball.

Elizabeth Min, Associate Manager of Content

Liz is a Ph.D. student in the Cell Biology department and studies how different magnitudes of hemodynamic shear stress regulate the TGF beta pathway in endothelial cells. She entered Arizona State University as a Flute Performance major before switching to Microbiology. Outside of lab, she continues to engage with the classical music community, performing with the Berkeley College Orchestra. Liz is also an opera aficionado and enjoys rock climbing.
